Back and Neck Pain – 3 treatments

Mr S (aged 35) has a physical job fitting kitchens. In the past he found that his lower back and neck could cause him a great deal of discomfort quite frequently. He had tried other therapies in the past, and found that they only prevented his injuries from recurring for about 2-3 months at a time. He came for a Bowen treatment when his lower back had locked up and he could hardly move his neck at all. After just one treatment his lower back pain had eased and he could turn his head. After three treatments he was moving normally. This was three years ago and he hasn’t suffered from neck and back trouble since. He continues to have a maintenance treatment twice a year.

Whiplash – 3 treatments

Mrs A (aged 41) had been suffering from persistent problems with her neck and lower back following a whiplash injury about 15 years ago. She could hardly turn her head to the left and suffered from frequent headaches. Her Lower back pain was made worse by sitting at a desk or driving. After two Bowen treatments she found her symptoms were greatly reduced, and after the third there was no longer any need for more treatment.

Ear, nose and throat infections – 4 treatments

Miss B (aged 5) was frequently suffering from ear infections, blocked sinuses and sore throats. She used to miss alot of school because of this and her mother was also aware that she was becoming quiet and withdrawn and not wanting to go back to school. She came for her first treatment whilst she had a cold and by the end her sinuses were much clearer and she could breathe easily and her earache had disappeared. She was also happy and ‘bouncy’. She said that she really enjoyed the treatment. A cold would normally last about 10 days, but after the Bowen treatment she was able to return to school after just three days. Over two months she had a total of four treatments. During that time she only had one further cold and this was mild enough that she only missed two days of school. Since then she has only about 2-3 colds a year and her mother has reported how much happier and confident she is in herself and she even looks forward to going to school.

Infant Colic – 3 treatments

Master J (3 months old) was very colicky. He was crying a great deal and wouldn’t settle down to sleep at any time of the day. After just three treatments given within a week and the colic was gone and his mum found that he was very easy to settle down to sleep. The colic never returned.

Digestive Problems – 2 treatments

Miss L (aged 3) suffered from of digestive problems; she constipated, bloated and had frequent tummy ache. She also had recurring hiccups. After the first treatment she had a bowel movement and her bloating went down. Between the first and the second treatment that was five days later her hiccups also abated and she had no more tummy aches. After the second treatment all her bloating had gone. Her mum was surprised that Miss L let herself be treated, but she found it fun and a bit tickly!

Tennis Elbow – 3 treatments

Mr K (46) was struggling with tennis elbow. He couldn’t pick up a glass, and there was a sharp pain in the elbow joint. It was affecting his job as it hurt to drive and he was unable to do his hobbies of horse riding and ice hockey. After two treatments was much better. He could pick up a glass and the pain was greatly reduced. It also didn’t hurt to drive. After the third treatment the pain had completely gone, all his strength and movement was back in his elbow and he was horse riding and playing ice hockey again.

New Born Baby – 1 treatment

Master S (10 days old) would not stop crying and he had had only one bowel movement since he was born. The day after his treatment he had a bowel movement and a couple of days later all was working normally. He was much more settled and sleeping better – in fact the whole family were! His mum says: "I can’t believe how something as gentle as the Bowen Technique can have such amazing results."

Sciatica – 3 treatments and then once every 8 – 10 weeks

Mrs L (32) had a bad riding accident in June 2006. She landed on her hip and crushed nerves in her back. She could not walk with a great deal of sciatic pain. Before trying the Bowen Technique she had been continually having other therapies to realign her pelvis, but the sciatic pain never went away. The constant pain was making her feel very depressed and tired and it was affecting her work. It was in October 2007 that she had her first Bowen treatment and walked out at the end pain free and her pelvis aligned. After just three weekly treatments she felt energised, fully recovered and her pelvis was still aligned. Mrs L says:"The Bowen Technique has become an essential part of my remaining fit and healthy and I couldn’t recommend it enough."

Spinal Damage – fortnightly treatments

In 2003 Mr S (aged 50) was in an accident and suffered severe spinal damage. The pain was excruciating and he turned to Bowen to see if it could help. After the first treatment he found that the pain was much more bearable and since 2003 the Bowen Technique has helped him control and limit the pain and keep his muscles and joints moving allowing him far great mobility than would otherwise have been the case. It has also helped to keep him in the best physical condition to meet the demands of other medical treatments and procedures. Mr S says: "The Bowen Technique has also helped me come to terms with the severity of my injuries without in any way giving in to them."

Back pain during pregnancy - 1 treatment

Mrs L (36) was six months pregnant when she came for treatment for a very painful lower back. After one treatment, the pain had disappeared and did not return during the remainder of the pregnancy.

Fallen arches and tight hamstrings - 3 treatments

Mr C (aged 64) came for treatment with fallen arches and very tight and sore hamstrings. He couldn't walk for even a short period of time and couldn't bend down. Climbing the stairs was awkward and painful. After the first treatment he could go hill walking and climb the stairs. Following the second treatment, all discomfort had disappeared and he had full mobility. After the third treatment, he said he was sleeping better, had a vast amount of energy and a renewed love of life.

Chronic Fatigue Syndrome - ongoing treatments every 3 weeks

Mrs M (63) suffered from chronic facial pain, chronic fatigue syndrome and depression. After two treatments the facial pain had greatly reduced. Following three treatments she showed improved energy levels and she was able to go out with friends and do some gardening. After five treatments she said she felt very different within herself and was planning things for her to do in the future. She continues to have regular treatments and has now enrolled on computer training courses and the University of the Third Age (U3A)

Low back Pain and painful to walk - 5 treatments

Mrs K (aged 86) had been suffering from back pain on and off for many years. Over the past year it had become worse and during that time she was also finding if very difficult to walk any distance because her feet were very painful. After the first treatment she found that her back was aching less and she had more movement in her ankles. After a further two treatments her back pain had gone and she was able to go shopping without too much discomfort in her feet and she was also aware that her legs felt lighter. After another two treatments she was able to do all the things that she wanted to do without any problems with her feet and her back pain never returned.

Asthma and respiratory problems - 2 treatments

Master A (aged 13) has always suffered from exercise induced asthma and hayfever. He has been hospitalized four times due to the severity of the asthma attacks. These have been during the hayfever season or when he has had a cold.
He came for his first treatment during the hayfever season and he also had the beginnings of a cold. His breath was very laboured and wheezy. He was tired and withdrawn, and in his own words didn’t feel very happy. During the treatment he giggled all the way through as he felt the whole of his torso was being tickled. At the end he was bright, alert, grinning and telling jokes.A week later, at his second treatment, he reported that his cold had not developed, and now in the height of the hayfever season, he had only a faint wheeze when playing football. His mother said that he’d been sleeping and eating better and that his mood was much brighter. During the treatment, again he felt he was being tickled, but not so intensely. Afterwards he was full of energy. He said he loved the treatment and it made him feel free.
A third treatment was booked for 2 weeks later, but the family went on holiday so he was unable to make it. His mother rang me a six weeks later to say that he had not suffered from any asthma or hayfever and he was able to play all the sports he wanted.
